Feed Hunger Now has partnered with Rescue Outreach Mission of Central Florida – Sanford to build a sustainable local food garden at their location. This project will introduce healthy nutritious locally grown food for the residents and guests of the Mission that is currently at a premium at this location.
Rescue Outreach Mission of Central Florida – Sanford

Rescue Outreach Mission is located in the historic Goldsboro district in Sanford, which was founded in 1891 and is one of the oldest African-American founded communities in the United States. The area at present can be considered a “food desert” and is lacking in the availability of locally grown food.
Rescue Outreach Mission of Central Florida, Inc. is a 115-bed housing-focused emergency shelter program serving men, women, and families with children who are experiencing homelessness. It is the only program of its kind in Seminole County, located in the historic community of Goldsboro in Sanford. It is a part of a regional effort to end homelessness through the framework of trauma-informed care, client choice, and community collaboration. In coordination with service providers across Central Florida, our goal is to increase financial resources, improve housing stability, and connect guests to mainstream benefits and community resources that will allow for long-term success (https://www.guidestar.org/profile/59-2876415)
Feed Hunger Now will design the layout for the sustainable food garden utilizing recirculating farming techniques. This will be a compact garden set up in approximately 360 SF space and include a variety of food growing methods including recirculating wicking beds, flood & drain hydroponics beds, NFTs, and vertical farming with the Lettuce Grow Farmstands. The total food growing area will be close to 200 SF which should allow almost 1,000 lbs annually of healthy nutritious locally grown food for the residents and guests of the Mission (at an estimated cost of $6.00 lb, this amounts to $6,000- of savings annually).
The proposed design, as shown below, will use recycled and repurposed materials whenever possible. Phase 1 of the build-out material cost is estimated at $10,000- (the recent inflationary pressures on a lot of the materials, especially wood and plastic products may increase this estimate). Our goal is to begin the build-out in mid-July and have the sustainable local food garden ready to be planted and start growing food by the end of September 2022.
Feed Hunger Now is humbly seeking donations to help jumpstart this project. There are numerous Sponsorship opportunities to help make this project a reality. We sincerely Thank you for your donations.
